Big E Feels That Once New Day Were Given Some Creative Control Is When They Were Able To Take Off As A Group

Big E speaks on his brethren.

The year 2014 saw Daniel Bryan win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 30, The Undertaker's WrestleMania undefeated streak being broken by Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk leaving the WWE, but 2014 was also the year that Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods formed The New Day.

All three men had their individual success in the company prior to banding together and when they first become a trio, the crowd was not receptive to them. Fast forwarding four years later and The New Day have become WWE Tag Team Champions four times and are also the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in the company's history. The powerhouse of the group Big E was able to speak to how they turned their boos into admiration when he spoke with 'The State Journal-Register' ahead of a SmackDown house show in Springfield, IL.

"To me, obviously, what swung things was us finally embracing the fact that the crowd didn’t like us. ... The first time we really cheated was instrumental because instead of trying to go against the grain and be these good guys that people didn’t like or didn’t care for, we finally decided to cheat... and it ended up working out really well for us." Big E said. "The real impetus for change was really just us being ourselves. Sometimes you’re saddled with an idea or a gimmick that doesn’t feel right. But you have to do your best to make it work. But when the reins were finally taken off and we were allowed to be ourselves and [given] a little more creative control, that’s when things really took off for us."
