Bobby Lashley Wanted Shelton Benjamin As The ‘Suge Knight’ Of The Hurt Business, Shelton Pitched MVP

Shelton Benjamin talks about the formation of The Hurt Business and reveals other names that were considered to be the fourth member.

The Hurt Business was a faction that took over Monday Night Raw during the pandemic. Starting as the coming together of Bobby Lashley and MVP after Bobby Lashley had been “married” to Lana on TV, eventually, the group was Lashley, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander and they held almost all of the gold on Monday Night Raw.

Alexander, Benjamin, and Lashley got together on the latest episode of WWE Table For 3 and Benjamin spoke about how Lashley originally envisioned him being the mouthpiece for the group but instead, they all agreed that MVP, once he was back in the fold at WWE, was a perfect choice.

"They didn't know what to do with me and what they were doing, you know," Shelton said. "I don't think anyone was on board with, myself included. So when you approached [me] with [the idea for The Hurt Business], I think even you had said like you said I could be the Suge Knight character and everything. As you described it to me, I'm listening. I was just thinking to myself, 'Okay, the more you describe this, that's just not me.' I'm like, the more you talk like, that feels like [MVP] and every time looks like him too. Yeah, so we can be a tag team. But [MVP] is more like what you're describing. That's MVP. You know, that's, that's tailor-made for him."

Benjamin says that after the group closed out Monday Night Raw by wreaking havoc in WWE Raw Underground, that's when they started talking about a fourth member. Benjamin says that Ricochet and Apollo Crews were considered but ultimately, they decided it had to be Cedric Alexander.

"That's when we started talking, okay, 'Who's going to be the fourth member?' We had such a huge talent pool of people we could choose from, you know, Ricochet came up, Apollo came up. We weighed the pros and cons and everybody was like, Nah, Cedric is the one. Yeah, like, such a good one. To your point, part of what her business one was trying to do was we were trying to help elevate other people but first we had to be elevated and I know my stock shot up. I have to believe that [Cedric's] stock shot up when we came together and started working like, you know, now we're working with a monster. It was so much fun and everything came together so organically," said Shelton.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though the group will ever get back together as MVP recently stated as much at WWE Hell in a Cell. Learn more here.

Shelton Benjamin recently came back after being on the shelf with an injury for only the second time in his career. Learn more here.
