Brandi Rhodes reflects on working with Dan Lambert and clears up misconceptions about Lambert being the reason that she and Cody left AEW.
Brandi Rhodes was always ready to stick up for her husband, Cody, in AEW. Throughout the course of their time in the company, Brandi coming to her man's defense had put her on the wrong side of a debuting Jade Cargill, as well as names like Tully Blanchard and Dan Lambert.
In a new interview with DS of Ring The Belle, Rhodes reflected on working with Dan Lambert and revealed that she never had a problem with him, nor was it a determining factor in her and Cody choosing to leave AEW.
"When I got to call [Dan Lambert] a Paul Heyman wannabe, that was so fun. That pandemic crowd had so much fun with it. They were having a blast," she said. "Then, pockets of the internet started flaring up about X, Y, and Z. Then, it started to become a little bit less, less fun. I think that's where you end up with Dan stepping away. Cody and I had our reasons that we left. That was not one of them."
Brandi Rhodes also revealed that it is not true that AEW had decided not to renew her contract, causing Cody Rhodes to leave the company alongside her. Rhodes says both she and her husband were on their way to sorting out new contract agreements with All Elite Wrestling.
"Cody got to say in the documentary what was not true. I didn't get to say that. Since I can't say some other things, I would like to say what's not true. So it's not true that we left because the Dan Lambert segments upset me. That's not true. Everything that Dan said, I was there for it. I enjoyed it. Some of it almost made me laugh a couple of times because I was just like, 'Jeez, this man.' The other thing that's not true is not true that I was not going to get another contract. We were both well on our way to trying to decide what our contracts were. So it was not true that they decided not to renew my contract and only wanted to renew Cody's, and that's why Cody left. It's not true. So you can cross those two things off the list, and the conspiracy theories can continue."
Cody Rhodes has always maintained that he left AEW in pursuance of his original dream in wrestling, becoming the WWE World Champion. He also stated in his documentary that he left AEW "because of a personal issue," but could not say why he left.
In a recent interview, Cody Rhodes told Sean Ross Sapp that he has maintained a good relationship with the other members of The Elite. Learn more here.
