Braun Strowman got inspiration for his name from SportsCenter.
In 2016, Braun Strowman began a relationship with the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team after attending one of their games as a fan. In an interview with WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Strowman shared how he ended up meeting the players.
"The Brewers welcomed me with open arms," said Strowman. "I went with my cousin (to a game)...I just happened to be in town and he asked if I wanted to come so I jumped along and went there. We're hanging out and someone noticed I was there and all of a sudden I'm getting phone calls and this and that. The Brewers PR guy comes and grabs me and takes me and my cousin down to the press box and takes us downstairs to meet the players," he continued.
Strowman explained that he had a particular reason for wanting to meet a certain Milwaukee baseball player.
"Funny story: I wanted to meet Ryan Braun because that's a big influence where Braun came from for Braun Strowman. I had pitched a bunch of ideas for names with the company and they turned them all down. It kind of got down to a time crunch of 'we need to figure something out,'" said Strowman. "We're sitting around the performance center and SportsCenter was on and they were talking about Ryan Braun. I was like 'that sounds pretty good, I mean look at me.' I'm 6-foot-8, 385 pounds. 'Braun' is pretty fitting," he added.
Strowman met Ryan Braun that day at the baseball game and the Milwaukee Brewers twitter shared a picture of the encounter.
Also during the interview, Strowman discussed his connection with the Milwaukee area which he considers one of his homes. The interviewer even mentioned Strowman's father playing slow-pitch softball in the area. Strowman said being in rural areas in Wisconsin and North Carolina relaxes him after his busy WWE schedule.
