The rivalry between Steve Austin and Bret Hart continues to this day.
Bret Hart appeared on Tuesday's WWE Backstage to discuss his Survivor Series 1996 match with Steve Austin. The match is considered to be one of Austin's best "pure" wrestling matches while it's another classic on Bret's resume.
When speaking about the match and wanting to work with Austin, Bret said, "I'd wrestled Steve a few times but not in any big matches. I was really looking forward to working with Steve. Back in those days, that was the first real consequential match we ever had. In all fairness to Steve, he would get a little nervous. He was pretty intense and anxious about working with me and it showed when I worked with him that he was going to come at me with everything. At the same time, he was nervous, if that's the right way to put it. There were nerves that that weren't there later on when I would work with him. He was finding himself a little bit."
Bret went on to say that the match at Survivor Series was on par with the WrestleMania 13 match.
Austin took to social media to clarify that he wasn't nervous going into the match with Bret.
No, not nervous. Just running on the edge of a razor blade. Confidence was sky high. Intensity was on point. Great time working with the best there is, was, and ever will be.
