Brett Lauderdale: Jon Moxley Told Me From The Start He Wanted To Be At The Hammerstein Show

Brett Lauderdale never counted out Jon Moxley.

On January 14, GCW announced that Moxley would defend the GCW Championship against Homicide at The WRLD on GCW on January 23. On November 2 it was announced by Tony Khan that Moxley had checked himself into an inpatient alcohol treatment program.

Moxley was a focal point of AEW television at the time, competing in the AEW World Title eliminator tournament, and the reigning GCW Champion.

Speaking to John Pollock and Wai Ting of POST Wrestling, Lauderdale discussed Moxley's impending return.

"He is on his own timetable. Of course, it was a wait-and-see. The circumstances that led to the uncertainty is one of those things. The ball is not in our court, it's in his court. When he's ready, and he tells us he's ready to go, then we're ready. We don't make that decision, he does. We planned on having him, he told us from the start that he wanted to be there and it was an important event for him. He also, just for the record, he takes being GCW Champion seriously. He takes pride in that and likes being part of GCW. While I had to wait to officially count him in, I never counted him out. It was just a matter of waiting to hear from him, then, I heard from him and said, 'I'll be there.' It was all very recently. I'm glad he's going to be there," he said.

Homicide earned his shot at the GCW Championship by winning the Do Or Die Rumble at GCW Die 4 This. Moxley is set to return to AEW on Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite.
