Tony Khan teases that fans could hear "The Final Countdown" in AEW again at some point in the future.
Bryan Danielson headlined AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 25, as he faced Kazuchika Okada in a special dream match. Danielson's entrance in itself was a special moment, as he used "The Final Countdown" by Europe as his music. In doing so, he used the classic song for the first time since his tenture in Ring of Honor.
During the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door post-show media scrum, Danielson was asked about using the song, and he noted that he didn't even ask for it. Instead, he stated that Khan came up with the idea.
"They want a zillion dollars per play [laughs]. I didn’t even ask for it, to be honest. Tony came up with the idea. I thought it was really cool. I was a little bit angry right before I went out there, and then I heard Final Countdown play. It literally put a smile on my face. I legitimately don’t think I’ve heard that song since I last came out to it in Ring of Honor," Danielson said.
Later in the scrum, Khan was asked about the process of getting "The Final Countdown" for the pay-per-view. He stated that it's an expensive song, and he had been working on it for a while. Khan stated that he was only able to get it on a one-show deal, which was as expensive as a wrestler's contract, but he thought it was worth it.
"It’s a very expensive song, Final Countdown. I had been working on it for awhile, leading into the pay-per-view, because I believed it would be a great moment and would give the match something special. Final Countdown has always been associated with Bryan, and I thought it was a cherry on top of this cake that everybody has been wanting a piece of that everybody has been wanting with Okada vs. Danielson. I was excited for Final Countdown, but it was also the kind of thing that I was only able to get on a one show contract. It was a very expensive one-night thing and it was as expensive as a wrestler’s contract, but it was worth it, and I thought it added to the show. It was not inexpensive at all. It was very expensive," Khan said.
Khan noted they have the rights in perpetuity as part of re-broadcasts of the pay-per-view, and he teased being able to get "The Final Countdown" one more time in the future.
During the scrum, Danielson revealed that he thinks he suffered a fractured forearm during his match at the show. Check out his comments here.
Khan also stated that the buys for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door were up from the first Forbidden Dor event. More information is available here.
