Carmelo Hayes wants to prove himself at NXT Deadline.
On the October 17 episode of WWE NXT, Trick Williams was attacked backstage ahead of a #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Championship. He was removed from the bout, and Carmelo Hayes seemed like the most probable suspect, as he stood to gain from the outcome. Hayes went on to win the title shot, and he unsuccessfully challenged Ilja Dragunov for the gold at NXT Halloween Havoc. There, Williams returned and cost Hayes the match.
Since Williams returned to NXT, he has been determined to find answers. Hayes has claimed that he is innocent, but NXT Anonymous has shared clips that suggest that he and Lexis King were working together to take Williams out. Williams confronted Hayes on the December 5 episode of NXT and accused Hayes, who responded by saying that he would never work with King.
Hayes then vowed to prove it by beating King at NXT Deadline. Ava, who arranged a match between Roxanne Perez and Kiana James earlier in the show, said the bout was as good as official.
