Charlotte Flair & The Bella Twins Recall Backstage Feelings Before Women's Evolution

WWE has been celebrating the five-year anniversary of the women's evolution, which began when Stephanie McMahon introduced Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch to the main roster.

The introduction of the three women from NXT marked a new era in WWE and culminated with them taking out The Bella Twins and Alicia Fox.

Charlotte joined Nikki and Brie on The Bellas podcast to reflect on the segment and what was going on backstage.

"For me, I'll never forget when they told us about the story. We loved it, because we loved being heel Bellas, and we got to bring Alicia Fox to Team Bella. I felt this is not only what WWE was waiting for, but the world was waiting for," said Brie.

Charlotte added, "NXT, the third brand at the time, there was such a disconnect. Now, you're more familiar with everyone. When we debuted that night, it was like, 'Here is the one opportunity -- not that you're not going to get another chance -- but you have to make an impact tonight.' All the little things that came with it, I learned along the way. Now that I look back, I felt unready to be where I was, but it was a learning process and growing in front of the audience. Now, we get a chance to interact with the talent from NXT. Then, everyone was just trying to put together this one night of never having experience together and that's what made it so difficult. "

Nikki said, "We were getting told so many different things. Weren't things changing constantly? I remember they told me I was going to take Sasha Banks' finisher and you have to flip over and I remember them saying, 'just go with it.' Just go with it?"

Nikki went on to say that Charlotte, Sasha, and Becky were the perfect three women for the role and that the timing and chemistry ended up being perfect. Charlotte added that having Stephanie make the introduction was perfect as it added star power without it coming off hokey.

Brie closed by saying, "It was the first time I worked with so many women that wanted to give and take. It was the first time where people weren't trying to bury each other, the first time people weren't trying to bring each other down. I was like, 'woah, we have all these women who want to make everything out there the best they can and are giving and taking. This is why we're on top right now.'"
