Charlotte Flair Did Not Know Her WrestleMania 34 Opponent Until March

Charlotte Flair wanted Asuka to face her at WrestleMania 34.

After Asuka won the first ever women's Royal Rumble match, WWE said she had a choice in which champion she would challenge Alexa Bliss or Charlotte Flair. In an interview with Barstool Sports, Flair said she did not find out who Asuka would be facing until March's WWE Fastlane pay-per-view.

"I was standing there hoping that everyone in gorilla on the writing team watching this going 'She has to pick me'...and then Ronda's music hit and I'm like 'No, she still has to pick me' I wanted to face Asuka that bad," said Flair.  "I didn't know. I kind of heard rumblings but I didn't know for sure until Fastlane. Fastlane it was 100 percent 'this is happening,'" she continued.

Flair said she wanted to face Asuka because the fans respect Asuka so much and it was a new matchup with an opponent with a different style. Also during the interview, Flair discussed her father's recent music video appearance, her journey from being a nameless actor in Triple H's WrestleMania 30 entrance, and the advancement of the women's division.

Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage and a recapping podcast for Flair versus Asuka and the rest of WrestleMania 34.
