Chavo Guerrero: Rey Mysterio, Thank You For Keeping Eddie Guerrero’s Name Alive, But We Don’t Need You

Chavo Guerrero sends a message to Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were best friends, and they were often linked together throughout their time in both WCW and WWE. Since Eddie passed away in 2005, Rey has continued to honor his memory in a variety of ways; for example, he continues to use Eddie's frog splash during matches on a regular basis. Chavo Guerrero, Eddie's nephew, recently took some playful jabs at Mysterio for these ongoing tributes.

Speaking on a virtual signing with Captain's Corner, Guerrero looked back on his on-screen feud with Mysterio in 2007. He then brought up the way Rey continues to pay tribute to Eddie, and he specifically pointed to Rey using the "Lie, Cheat, Steal" theme song and coming out in a lowrider at WWE WrestleMania 39. Guerrero leaned into his heel character and said the family was tired of Mysterio leaning on their name.

"I just don’t understand why Rey Mysterio still has to, look, we all love Eddie. But we’re not going out with his gimmick, I mean our gimmick, it was Los Guerreros’ gimmick, and come out to Los Guerreros’ “We Lie, We Cheat, We Steal,’ and everybody’s like, ‘Oh, yeah, keep Eddie’s memory alive,’ and I was like, no, dude. I’m tired of people, this is not a bitter thing, this is straight-up. We worked hard for that last name. This whole family worked really, really hard to get that name to where it was, and we’re tired of people prostituting it in a sense and using it for their benefit. So Rey Mysterio, I’m sorry that no one knows who Rey Mysterio Sr. is, and I’m sorry that you have to latch onto the Guerrero family, and we’re just kind of tired of it. So thank you for keeping Eddie’s name alive, thank you for keeping the Guerrero name alive, but we don’t need you, we’re good," Guerrero said.

When asked about a potential match against Mysterio at WWE WrestleMania 40, Guerrero heeled it up by responding, “I don’t think Rey could hold a candle to me right now, to be honest [laughs]."

Rey and Dominik Mysterio have both referenced Eddie Guerrero in recent months on WWE TV. Dominik stated that he wished Eddie was his real father on the March 27 episode of WWE Raw. More information is available here.

Rey Mysteio will face Damian Priest on the April 24 episode of WWE Raw. Fightful will have live coverage of the show as it is on Monday.
