On Feb. 18, IMPACT Wrestling announced they had signed Chris Bey to a contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Bey had worked multiple television tapings for IMPACT throughout 2019 and recently worked the tapings in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Bill Pritchard at WrestleZone reports that Bey actually signed with IMPACT "some time at the end of 2019," but no firm timeline was given.
IMPACT announced Bey's signing hours after AEW Co-Executive Vice President Cody praised Bey on a media call, saying he could be a good addition to the AEW roster.
Appearing on IMPACT Behind The Lights, Bey commented on his decision to sign with IMPACT.
"It feels like the beginning. I worked my life for moments like these. I have manifested this and have worked tirelessly for three years of training. This has been a mental game my entire life. A lot of people who have followed me on social media have seen me talk about IMPACT Wrestling, ten to twelve years ago on YouTube. For me to now be a part of IMPACT Wrestling, not only am I showing everyone that you can achieve any dream that you have and put everything into reality but now it's time to really take over and do what they don't expect you to do."
He continued, "I came to IMPACT for a reason and it's not just because I've wanted to be here since I was a kid, I think we have one of the best locker rooms in professional wrestling. Right now, it's a star-studded time for wrestling and there are so many organizations with top tier talent. I totally believe in our roster. My goals are to entertain people on a television platform and win championships. That's the end-all for me, the World Championship."
Bey previously appeared on the Oct. 11, 2019 episode of 205 Live, losing to Ariya Daivari in singles competition. He competed in two matches at the IMPACT tapings in Las Vegas, but neither bout has yet to air on television.
