The rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens continues to escalate.
On the January 10 episode of WWE SmackDown, Kevin Owens interrupted Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes while he was speaking with Paul Heyman. Owens took issue with Rhodes shaking hands with The Rock and Paul Heyman. They brawled in the crowd, and the fight spilled into the backstage area.
Later in the show, Rhodes and Jimmy Uso faced Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu of The Bloodline. Owens came out and distracted Rhodes. Rhodes took the fight to Owens, and they again brawled all over the arena. Their fight continued after Fatu pinned Uso for the win.
In the closing moments of the show, Rhodes tackled Owens off a production case, sending both men crashing through a table below. Officials checked on them as the show came to an end.

Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Owens in a Ladder Match at WWE Royal Rumble.
