The main event for ROH Final Battle is set.
Ring of Honor announced that Cody Rhodes will challenge ROH World Champion Jay Lethal for the title on Dec. 14 at Final Battle.
This will mark the second time in three years the two have met at Final Battle. They previously wrestled at Final Battle 2016 with Cody picking up the victory. Cody went on to win the ROH World Title at Best In The World 2017, but lost the title to Dalton Castle at Final Battle last year. Lethal won the title at the ROH television tapings on June 30. Cody never received his one-on-one rematch for the title.
Cody has had a successful 2018. He won the NWA World Title on Sept. 1 at All In, the IWGP United States Title on Sept. 30 at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed, and the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships, with the Young Bucks, on July 21. He has since lost the NWA World Title and ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championships.
Lethal is the second longest reigning ROH World Champion in history. Between his two title reigns, he's held the title for 565 days. He's three defenses away from tying Daniel Bryan and Nigel McGuinness for most successful title defenses with 38.
ROH Final Battle takes place on Dec. 14 from the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York.
