Cody Rhodes: I Probably Shouldn't Have Started The FTR Thing

Cody Rhodes is reflecting on accidentally giving FTR their name.

Long before the days of AEW, Cody Rhodes was a part of the regular cast of Being The Elite and Cody initiated one of the long-running gags on the show, “Fuck The Revival.”

Adam Cole: In Some Way, Shape, Or Form, I Will Eventually Get My Hands On MJF

Initially, this was just a response Cody Rhodes had when asked about whether or not The Revival was a better tag team than Matt and Nick Jackson but the joke eventually took on a life of its own, and following a cease-and-desist, the full statement was shortened to FTR.

The tag team, then known individually as Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, embraced these three letters and when they left WWE in 2020, they decided that FTR would be their tag team name moving forward. Occasionally changing up the meaning of the three letters as they saw fit.

On the most recent episode of Dynamite, FTR helped Andrade El Idolo defeat Cody Rhodes and even attacked Cody Rhodes after the match. Taking to Twitter, Cody would post a simple statement responding to the attack while simultaneously showing regret for giving new life to this tag team in the first place.

FTR will face The Lucha Bros for the AEW Tag Team Championship on Saturday, November 13 at Full Gear. As of this writing, Cody Rhodes does not have a match scheduled for the pay-per-view. You can see the full card here.
