Corey Taylor says NXT 2.0 is not his kind of wrestling.
Corey Taylor, the frontman for both Slipknot and Stone Sour is a proud wrestling fan. His music was used several times in NXT Slipknot’s All Out Life was the NXT theme song as the brand moved to the USA Network.
Asked during the Shiprocked 2022 cruise how that all came about and whether or not he is a fan of the NXT 2.0 change, Taylor revealed that no, he does not watch NXT 2.0 and in fact, he was disappointed with what many of the NXT wrestlers he was a fan of ended up doing when they got to the main roster.
"We'll start with the easy part, I haven't even watched 2.0. It just, to me, it just looks like WWE-lite, to be honest. That's not always bad. But the great thing about NXT was it felt it didn't feel too developmental, right? It felt like you were getting a whole different company, you're getting a whole different promotion, man. To me, the wrestling wasn't as stiff. The wrestling was exciting. They let the wrestlers be themselves. Sadly, once all of my favorite wrestlers from NXT, once they got called up. They didn't do anything with them, then do anything with them when they got to the fucking main roster."
Taylor continued, "So to answer your question about the music, they actually came to us. I have known certain people in that organization for a while. Actually, I met them through Chris Jericho, who's a good friend of mine. He'd actually left the promotion right around the time that they came to us to ask if they wanted, we wanted to do a collab with them which I was all about. So not only that, I get you Slipknot with them. But I also got to do some stuff with CMFT. They used Culture Head, we did a live version of Ace of Spades that actually was was really cool for one of the pay-per-views. It just kind of happened. Triple H hit us up. He's a big fan."
Corey revealed Triple H offered him a spot inside the squared circle. Which he declined.
"He's like, 'Do you want to get in the ring?' I was like, 'Dude, I would love to. However, I have the bone structure of an 86 year old.' It just kind of happened, it was cool. You know, I've never thought anything like that would ever happen for Slipknot, and the fact that they liked it for the NXT brand. I was all about it. It took very little to convince the guys of it. We were just into it. So they used all that life and then we just, we just kind of fucking run with it. "
