D-Von Dudley Highlights A Key Issue He Sees With Current Tag Teams

D-Von Dudley says it seems like everyone gets thrown together.

As a member of The Dudleys alongside Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley is one-half of the most legendary tag teams in wrestling history. The duo held tag team titles in WWE, ECW, TNA, NJPW, and other promotions, and they clashed with numerous other top tag teams throughout their career. WWE's tag team division has been criticized at times in recent years, often due to a lack of depth or opportunity.

Speaking on Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, D-Von Dudley was asked to comment on the current state of tag team wrestling and any issues he may see with it.

“Well, back then, Edge and Christian were kind of put together in a sense, but they knew each other. They knew each other before the business, and they trained together. They did everything together, so they were kind of a tag team anyway, even though they came in separate. The Hardys grew up together, they were legit brothers. They were able to get on the road and function like a legit tag team because they were, in a sense. The Dudleys, same thing, we were able to be together for five and a half years in ECW, got to learn each other, got to travel with each other, got to fight with one another. Being able to come up with ideas and be on the same page, so we were able to do that. Nowadays, it just seems like they take people and just put them together for no reason. No chemistry whatsoever, and you’re just hoping, it’s like throwing crap against the wall and hoping it sticks. A lot of times, it just doesn’t. That’s the difference between the tag teams of yesterday and the tag teams of today. Everybody is a ‘me, me, me’ generation. ‘What can I do? How can I wow the people? How can I wow the crowd?’ It’s like, I gotta get my stuff in before everybody else gets their stuff in. That was the thing. Edge and Christian, The Dudleys, and The Hardys weren’t like that. You do what you gotta do, we gonna do what we gotta do, and Edge and Christian will do what they gotta do. We all know that we will get over if we stick together as a unit. We don’t have to be separate from it," D-Von Dudley said.
