UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier says he's open to anything, but he'd have to get in shape before he potentially faced Brock Lesnar.
Fans have been speculating about a match between the two powerhouses for years. Cormier memorably called out Lesnar in 2018, but the clash never happened. Lesnar returned to WWE, and Cormier later retired from the UFC. But Cormier recently entered the world of sports entertainment when he served as the special guest referee for the Fight Pit Match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at WWE Extreme Rules. Moving forward, it's easy to wonder whether he could compete in a WWE ring and face Lesnar.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was asked about the match. He noted that it intrigues him, but he'd have to get in shape in order to do a match like that. He emphasized that the door is not closed on anything.
“I’ve been retired for a couple of years and I look like it. But I’d have to get in shape if I ever want to do something like that. The door is not closed on anything right now in my life," Cormier said.
Fans and WWE officials alike seemed please with Cormier's involvement at Extreme Rules; Triple H, the company's Chief Content Officer, tweeted that he looked right at home in the Fight Pit. Cormier responded to this feedback by noting that he wanted to succeed after he was given the opportunity. He noted that he doesn't have any future dates with WWE, but he's open to a potential return.
“I’m still at an age where there are some opportunities, but those opportunities need to start now if they’re going to be something I pursue,” Cormier said.
Cormier recently stated that while a fight with Lesnar in WWE makes sense, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will happen. He also described how his involvement at WWE Extreme Rules came together. You can check out his comments here.
