Daniel Cormier reveals a text exchange he had with CM Punk after WWE Survivor Series,
CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series, coming out at the end of the show and getting a massive cheer from the Chicago audience. Punk's return was kept under wraps and came together just ahead of WWE Survivor Series.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Daniel Cormier discussed Punk's return and wondered if Sasha Banks (Mercedes Mone) might be night.
Daniel Cormier: I texted him. I said, 'Dude, what a freaking pop.' He goes, 'I couldn't even hear my music it was so loud.' He said it was so loud in there he couldn't even hear his music. This is the new WWE though, right? It doesn't matter how bad it ended, you can always go back. My thought is, Royal Rumble, maybe Sasha Banks comes back.
Ariel Helwani: Ah, who cares?
DC: Or Naomi. Remember, they were the tag team champs?
AH: Nahh.
DC: Oh, I know why you don't care.
AH: Why? What?
DC: I just know why. 'Oh, who cares?'
AH: CM Punk is the man, the Best in the World. The Legit Boss, what has she ever done?
DC: She's won every championship. She's done everything. Right now, her name is something Mone. She is rocking and rolling in Japan. She's the best. What are you talking about, you don't care.
AH: Were you surprised that Punk came back?
DC: The thing about wrestling today is, if you're on the internet at all, everyone is guessing. It was in Chicago, so you thought if there was a time, maybe. I liked it, but if you're Randy Orton, you're pissed off, right? Randy Orton comes out, muscles popping. Big chest, big shoulders, big muscles, and then 'Look in my eyes.' Oh, Randy Orton is back, let's put him back in a tag team with Matt Riddle because now we're all talking about CM Punk.
AH: Riddle is gone.
DC: I know, I'm just saying, that's what they were doing with Randy Orton before. He came back, important, 'he could fight Roman Reigns.' Then, CM Punk comes back and now it's, 'Eh, Randy Orton. Good, but come on.'
Mercedes Mone is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, but she returned to the ring recently to begin training again. She was working with NJPW/STARDOM before her injury in May.
