Darby Allin Beats Samoa Joe, Wins TNT Title On 1/4 AEW Dynamite

Darby Allin has regained the TNT Championship.

On the December 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, Allin attacked Samoa Joe after he defended the title against Wardlow. Allin then challenged for the title in the main event of the January 4 episode of AEW Dynamite, which was held in his hometown of Seattle, Washington.

Fellow Seattle native Nick Wayne, who is signed to a futures contract with AEW, was in the crowd, and Allin hugged him on his way to the ring. Joe tried to attack Wane during his entrance, but Allin made the save.

Joe targeted Allin's knee throughout the match, as the challenger hurt it when he dove off a ladder early in the contest. "The King of Television" continued to control the action, but Allin persevered and scored the win with two Coffin Drops. After the bell, Sting came to the ring and celebrated with Allin as the Seattle crowd gave the new champion a warm response.

Joe won the title by defeating Wardlow and Powerhouse Hobbs at AEW Full Gear 2022. He is also the reigning ROH World Television Champion. Allin previously won the TNT Championship at AEW Full Gear 2020, but he hasn't held the title since Miro defeated him on the May 12 episode of Dynamite in 2021. Allin was unsuccessful in his first shot at Joe on the December 7 episode of AEW Dynamite.
