In his post-match comments, David Finlay sent a message to Konosuke Takeshita ahead of their singles bout.

“Let’s take a minute to appreciate my IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. Look at this, look how beautiful this is. This is the most valuable prize in all of professional wrestling, which makes me the guy that everybody wants to beat. So here’s the thing, Takeshita. You’ve got no loyalty. Are you a DDT guy? Are you an AEW guy? You sure sure as well ain’t a New Japan guy. So here’s the thing. You call yourself ‘Messiah of Strong Style,’ something to do with being a messiah and being Strong Style. Here’s the thing, you can bring all that bullshit you want, but at the end of the day, the only person you really need to focus on saving is yourself because you’re in there with David Finlay. You’re in there with a fourth-generation wrestler, you’re in there with the most dangerous man in all of professional wrestling. Ask all your friends back at AEW, the lengths I will go to to prove a point, the lengths I will go to to win a match. You and I have no history, which means I have no soft spot for you. Which means I don’t care whether you walk again, whether you breathe again, whether you can finish this tournament or not. Because all I care about is getting my fucking two points from you and winning this G1 Climax, and then I get to add you to the long list of Tony Khan’s favorite toys that I get to smash. I will see you very soon," Finlay said.
