Speaking at the NJPW G1 Climax 34 press conference, iWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay shared his thoughts ahead of the tournament.

“19 people are gonna come up here, they’re gonna practice their smile, they’re gonna bat their eyelashes, they’re gonna tell you all about how they want to be New Japan’s new golden boy. All 19 of them are liars. There will be no golden boy as long as The Savage King reigns. I am the only one that truly understands the roots of this business. We came from violence. We came from blood, we came from muck. I am the reminder to all these motherfuckers that if you so much as bend the knee to fans, you sell out to sponsors and executives, well, you’ve got no business being in my damn ring. Now, G1 Climax, the most prestigious tournament in the world. The question on everybody’s mind is not only who’s gonna win this year, but who is gonna be crowned ace for the new era? Two years ago, I told you to expect me, but this year, I ain’t gonna say a damn thing because the run I’m on, you should all know that it’s me. I am the Rebel Savior. I am the GOAT slayer, I am the Savage King, I am the leader of the War Dogs, and whether you people want to admit it or not, I am already the ace of this company because I have been leading it the whole damn time. So not only am I a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, but I will soon add G1 Climax Champion to that illustrious list," Finlay said.
