Dax Harwood looks back on his controversial comments about Brawl Out.
CM Punk, the reigning AEW World Champion at the time, made some heated comments about The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) at the post-show press conference following AEW All Out, leading to a fight between the two sides. Everyone involved was subsequently suspended, and while The Elite returned to AEW in November, Punk has remained absent. Harwood, who is currently signed to AEW, is close friends with Punk, and he discussed Brawl Out and the months leading up to it on the first episode of his podcast, FTR with Dax Harwood.
On the show, he shared his side of the story and also expressed his hope that the two sides would work it out. His comments generated some controversy, given the incendiary nature of the incident. Since then, Harwood has maintained that he was being true to himself and offering his genuine views of the situation.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Harwood looked back on his comments about Punk and The Elite and noted that he was speaking about one of his best friends as his genuine self. He made it clear that, as far as he's concerned, he wants to help make AEW the best company it can be, at least through the duration of his contract in April.
“That was David Harwood speaking, and I was talking about one of my best friends. Just because of what happened, or what people think happened, there is no ill will. I’m here, at least through the duration of my contract in April, to make AEW the best company I can. If I continue to stay here, I want to make AEW the best company I possibly can, especially the younger wrestlers. There is so much potential here. Deep down, there are good people in wrestling—myself, Cash, Matt Koon, Punk, The Young Bucks—and we all inherently want to be good," Harwood said.
Harwood and his tag team partner, Cash Wheeler, have been granted a few months off of TV in order to heal their bodies and make a decision about their future. Dax recently commented on potentially returning to AEW. Click here to see what he had to say.
