Drake Maverick is sticking around WWE.
Despite not winning the NXT Interim Cruiserweight Title, Drake Maverick will remain in WWE.
It's been a whirlwind month and a half for Maverick as he was released by WWE as part of the April 15 cutbacks despite being previously announced for the interim NXT Cruiserweight Title tournament. Maverick posted an emotional video following his release where he stated he was not done fighting. The video went viral and was used to build Maverick's journey in the tournament.
Maverick made it to the finals of the tournament and a victory over El Hijo del Fantasma meant WWE would have had no choice but to keep him around. Maverick was not victorious, but as he made his way back up the ramp, Triple H came down and gave him a new contract to sign. Maverick, who previously served as the general manager on 205 Live, will now be part of the NXT brand.
