Dustin Rhodes felt rejuvenated after his match against Cody.
The last six years of Dustin Rhodes' professional wrestling career was spent in the WWE. Towards the closing portion of his latest run in the company, he was not featured on television on a consistent basis and in the Spring of 2019, it was reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet that Dustin departed from WWE and was a free agent. Dustin would later confirm that he asked for his release the day after he appeared on the 'Road To Double Or Nothing' series.
Cody versus Dustin Rhodes was soon be made official for All Elite Wrestling's Double Or Nothing show and around came May 25th and the crowd inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena was lively for the brother versus brother show down. Before Cody and Dustin locked up, there were "Dusty" chants and Dustin explained how much that meant to him during an interview with Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald and shared that his passion for wrestling came back full force on that night.
“It has, because for a while I lost my passion, because when you’re in the other company and you’re sitting and you’re not doing anything, because they don’t have anything for you, yet you’re pitching all these ideas and nothing is ever done about those ideas and you know you have so much more to give -- it’s frustrating, it pisses you off, it’s upsetting, it’s depressing." Dustin said about WWE. "It does a lot of things to you man and I had enough. I had to go. I had to go, because I needed to get on with my life and go try some new things and acting is one of those things right now. But having that match with Cody and seeing the crowd and seeing everybody in that locker room 110% positive about where the company’s going and everybody is happy and in the locker room you can see such a different atmosphere, you can see such a different atmosphere from the fans. It’s exciting, and when I finished that match, my passion was -- and it really started as soon as they started the ‘Dusty’ chant. When they started that… it’s indescribable man. It was the most special thing that has ever happened to me in 31 years. That match, so yes, my passion was reignited in a sense and yeah, I am a little older but it feels so good [that] I have so much left to give and I cannot wait for the opportunity, because opportunity was given to me and I took it. Opportunity was not given to me in another place for a long, long time and that’s where I lost my passion so, it’s back, and The Natural Dustin Rhodes is back.” He explained.
