Eddie Edwards: I Am Confident I Will Be IMPACT World Champion Again In 2023

Eddie Edwards wants to win another world title in IMPACT, and he's confident he'll be able to do so in 2023.

In recent years, Edwards has become one of IMPACT Wrestling's top stars. He is a two-time world champion with the company, and he remains one of the most established competitors on the roster. January is often a fitting time to make new goals, given it marks the beginning of a new year, and Edwards has his sights set on winning more gold.

In an interview with Lee Tarrier of PWMania, Edwards was asked whether he believes a third world title reign is on the horizon in 2023. Edwards emphasized his confidence that he will win the gold again at some point this year. He stated that he wants to get there "the right way" by working his way up and beating everyone on his road to the top.

"I think so. I got close at the end of last year, but I’ll get back to the drawing board and 2023 is a new me. I want to do it the right way, work my way up, and beat everyone to get there. I am confident I will be World Champion in 2023," Edwards said.

That journey will kick off at IMPACT Hard To Kill on January 13, where Edwards will face Jonathan Gresham.

"I’m looking forward to it. Anytime we have a PPV, it’s one of those things you can feel in the air, you can feel it in the building, the energy, the excitement from the locker room itself, let alone the fans. Me and Gresham were supposed to wrestle 9 months ago at Rebellion, but circumstances out of our hands meant we couldn’t, so now the time is here, a long time in the making. We’ll be out there, tearing up, Center Stage, Atlanta. What better place to do it?" Edwards said.

Edwards also previewed his mindset ahead of the match. He made it clear that he wants to get Gresham off his game by getting away from holds and submissions. Edwards described how he'd like to lean oon his brawling-based offense. The former champion noted that he'd like to test Gresham as a wrestler and as a man.

"He’s been everywhere, England, Europe, and across the states and he is very technical. That’s his style, he’s a technician and one of, if not the best out there right now in that aspect. He will bring submission holds, catch wrestling, so of course, I’ve been looking out for that, but I want to get him off his game. I want to push him beyond what he is comfortable doing, away from just holds and submissions. I want to switch it up with some brawling, some hard-hitting stuff that he may be able to do, but he hasn’t done against me. Let’s turn it up a notch, I want to test him. Sure, we can wrestle, but at some point, I will turn it up and test him in the ring, not just as a wrestler but as a man," Edwards said.

Edwards was previously set to face Gresham at IMPACT Rebellion, but the match was canceled due to an injury. Check out Edwards' comments on the situation here.
