Eddie Kingston: In A Dream World, Me And Jun Akiyama Have The Opening Match At AEW Grand Slam

Book it, TK.

Throughout his entire career, Eddie Kingston has paid tribute to a multitude of his favorite wrestlers through the way he presents himself in the ring, on a microphone, and out of the ring. In recent months, Kingston has talked about how fighting Jun Akiyama would be the highlight of his career.

In a recent interview with Under The Ring, Kingston talked about his recent match on AEW Rampage with standout Konosuke Takeshita, who is currently learning under Jun Akiyama in DDT Pro Wrestling.

"I loved every second of it. It’s a style that I enjoy, it’s a style that I’m still studying. The King’s Road, The All-Japan, or the NOAH style, whatever you wanna call it. I’m still studying it, I’ll never learn all of it but that’s the point, I wanna keep learning. Being in there with him was amazing. It was also one of my tests for me to see if I could beat this kid who is a young up and comer and is learning under one of my heros and one of my dream matches, Jun Akiyama. He’s studying under him so if I don’t get the match with Akiyama, this is the closest I’ll get to him."

When the upcoming AEW Grand Slam event was brought up in the interview, the 'Mad King' jumped to call his shot for a match with Akiyama at the signature stadium event.

"That’s where I want Akiyama, put that out there. In a dream world, in a dream scenario, it’s me and Akiyama opening that show. When Tony Khan sees this he’s gonna go ‘Why? Why are you doing this to me?’."

At last year's Grand Slam event, Kingston teamed up with Jon Moxley on Rampage to face Suzuki-Gun (Lance Archer & Minoru Suzuki).

Elsewhere in the interview, Kingston discussed his rivalry with Chris Jericho. To see Kingston's full comments, click here.
