El Desperado Clarifies Contract Status With NJPW

El Desperado gives clarification on his contract status.

El Desperado has taken bookings outside of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, but he says it's "BS" that he's a freelancer and not under contract with NJPW, which was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer in June.

Jeff Jarrett Explains Why He Doesn't Think The Pay-Per-View Model Will Ever Fully Go Away

"Dave Meltzer wrote something like ‘Desperado is a freelancer so he can take all these outside bookings’, which was absolute BS," he told NJPW's website. "When you have NJPW wrestlers go out to these other companies, there’s some cross promotion involved there, there’s an acknowledgement and a little bit of publicity on NJPW’s end. To an extent, from a promoter’s standpoint, that publicity is part of my payoff, that they’re able to book ‘NJPW star El Desperado’. NJPW’s name value there is as, or more, important than my own, so to go about and take that branding away from me for no reason stank."

El Desperado has wrestled for ROH, DDT, FREEDOMS, CMLL, and more promotions throughout 2023.

He recently wrestled at IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United 2 in an X-Division scramble match. Fans can find results fro Multiverse United 2 by clicking here.
