Eric Bischoff talks Randy Orton vs. Gunther from WWE Bash In Berlin.
Orton and Gunther got to headline the premium live event, competing in a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Notably, this was Gunther’s first time headlining a premium live event on the main roster. Furthermore, it was Randy Orton’s first singles main event contest since facing Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Inferno match at TLC in 2020.
On the latest edition of 38 Weeks (via AdFree Shows), Eric Bischoff first praised Orton, calling him a national treasure.
“Randy Orton is a national treasure, that’s what I’ll say. He’s so good, he put on a masterclass in there. He’s the literal definition of less is more. Talk about a guy who knows how to pace a match, who knows how to get the crowd into the match, who knows how to get his opponent over and sells, oh my god, Randy’s ability to sell is so believable. There aren’t enough appropriate words to describe how impressed I am and how much I respect Randy Orton.”
Bischoff then went on to state that Orton was able to elevate Gunther in the match.
“Gunther, I haven’t followed him a lot, I haven’t seen a lot of his work. Randy elevated him not only with the finish, that’s wrestling 101, but what Gunther learned by working with Randy, even though it was awkward and even though Randy was leaning into the crowd, that’s what Gunther needs. He needs to be in more of those situations because much like Jade Cargill, I’m not comparing where they are in their careers necessarily, but they’re both relatively young and they’re both relatively new. Jade, much more so. But to be in that big show scenario and that big show vibe with the one of the biggest stars in the industry of the last 25 years really and have to learn from him and keep up with him — those are the types of things that will make him better.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Bischoff gave his thoughts on the match between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens at Bash In Berlin. Learn more about those comments here.
