EXCLUSIVE: Sexy Star Says She Has Not Retired From Wrestling

Sexy Star shocked wrestling fans when she appeared at a boxing event last year and announced she would be transitioning to become a professional boxer, unmasking herself in the process.

In an exclusive interview with Fightful, Sexy Star, real name Dulce Gonzalez, revealed that subsequent reports of her quitting wrestling for good are incorrect. She said just because she's now a boxer doesn't close the window on an opportunity to return to the ring.

Gable Steveson: I Was Supposed To Return To Amateur Wrestling In 2023, But The Timing Wasn't Right

“At no point did I ever actually say [that I’m retired from wrestling],” Gonzalez said. “I think that was just miscommunication from several parties saying that I’ve quit. I have not quit wrestling, but we’ll see what happens. We’ll see what opportunities come my way as a boxer. Boxing and wrestling are similar in regards to being in shape. If I’m in shape and still training in boxing, then I can definitely come back and do wrestling. If I keep training, even though boxing is another sport entirely, then I think I feel comfortable enough to wrestle at any given time.”

As for her boxing career, Gonzalez said she had been a big boxing fan and that she trains in the sport when she isn’t wrestling. She is married to former boxing three-time world champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had been one of Lucha Underground’s biggest stars, becoming the first woman to hold the Lucha Underground championship and routinely compete in intergender matches. She regularly appeared the show throughout its third season, which was taped in spring 2016, but had been airing on the El Rey Network throughout the second half of 2016 and early 2017.

Gonzalez told Fightful she is expected to make her professional boxing debut on April 22.
