NXT notes from the May 28 show from Corey Brenann
- Full Rundowns were not sent out until after doors had been opened for fans. Things were kept close to the vest for obvious reasons.
- With regards to Ethan Page’s debut, WWE confirmed to Fightful that he'd signed with WWE. We can also confirm PWInsider’s report that Page was at the WWE Performance Center last week, and was undergoing his signing physical with the promotion. NXT officials have had interest in bringing Page in since he left AEW. Shawn Michaels stood in for Page in rehearsals, with Booker T being listed on rundowns in Page’s place. Shinsuke Nakamura’s theme was played during rehearsals in place of Page’s attack. We’re also told that Vic Joseph’s near mention of AEW was scripted.
- Due to the two surprises on the show, backstage access was stripped back in order to hide Grace and Page and preserve the surprises.
- Sexyy Red was spoken of highly by those we spoke to, and was said to be easy to work with. She is expected to make further appearances on NXT television following NXT Battleground, with one source comparing her presence on WWE programming moving forward to that of fellow singer Poppy.
- Andrea Concepcion and Johnny Russo listed as writers for Jordynne Grace’s segment, while Russo was listed as the writer for Ethan Page’s debut segment.
- Gigi Dolin was not backstage at this week’s tapings. We have confirmed that her storyline with Arianna Grace was dropped as of this week, but have yet to confirm why.
- The May 28th episode of the show was a chaotic one backstage due to several crew members arriving into town early on Tuesday. One source noted that “nerves were frayed” throughout the crew by the time the show went on the air.
- The internal title for this week’s episode of the show was “Sexyy Red Is NXT”.
- Charlie Dempsey spoke about the No Quarter Catch Crew needing structure. There have been pitches dating back months for William Regal to have a mentor role for the stable.
