Billy Dixon explains how he was handed the keys to the For The Culture brand.
For the fifth consecutive year, GCW will be hosting a For The Culture event during WrestleMania weekend. For the second year in a row, the event will be headed up independent wrestler Billy Dixon.
Dixon recently sat down with Fightful Overbooked's Indied podcast for a new interview, where he was asked about how he ended up as the head honcho for the FTC brand.
“On a random weekday, I was asked, hey, do you wanna do For The Culture? I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Before I had a chance to talk to anyone else in the world about it, it was [announced] that Billy is doing For The Culture this year. So that’s how that happened, because that’s how fast wrestling moves. All of the people who have conspiracy theories on how this happened, I am so sorry to tell you, that is exactly what happened. Brett messaged me with a yo text, I said okay sure, and then I put my phone down and lived my life. Went to pick my phone back up and it was everywhere. That’s as cut and dry as it is. It’s been a learning experience and it’s been fun and intriguing, sometimes a little frustrating and a little maddening, but overall it’s been a very positive experience. I’m very grateful all things considered that the show still exists and that people in the organization and people with great influence put my name in the hat and said I had the ability to do this. In my opinion, this is hardest show to book in the entire industry all year. I don’t think there’s a show to book that’s harder. I could book WrestleMania with my eyes closed, but For The Culture by far has the most emotional gravity of any wrestling show all year and with great power comes great responsibility. I’m managing that power and managing all that comes with it. Before I had a chance to digest that responsibility, it was already out there.”
