Chris Masters reflects on his time on WWE TV as a comedic character with dancing pecs.
Chris Masters was once touted to be a future WWE World Champion, having competed inside Elimination Chambers and wrestled the likes of John Cena, Ric Flair, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels before he turned 25. However, Masters would eventually fall out of favor and become more of a comedic character on WWE TV.
During this time in Chris Masters' career, WWE Raw was heavily structured around the celebrity guest hosts that would appear from week to week. Because of this heavy focus on entertainment, one of the defining characteristics of Chris Masters' persona was his ability to make his pectoral muscles dance.
Speaking on the Fightful Overbppked In The Weeds podcast with Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl, Masters reflected on that time in his career, suggesting that it was perhaps Brian Gewirtz's idea and that, while he enjoyed it at first, he's helped the idea became overutilized very quickly.
"It might have been Brian Gewirtz. The first one with the Osbournes and the one with the Black Eyed Peas was good, but my God, they overbooked the hell out of that," said Masters. "I knew as a fan, that’s not something you’re not going to want to see every day. It’s funny a couple of times but move on. I felt like I did it too well the first time and it got the big pop, and then all of a sudden, they put me in situations to do that, which I thought was dumb. Maybe I did it too well, or maybe it was just punishment, a way to bury me. I didn’t feel like it was doing anything for me. It got to a point where I was just booked doing that and then only booked on Superstars and then I just focused on in ring and I really developed. That’s why CM Punk referenced it after the release on how I had improved in the ring because I just applied everything there. It was productive in that sense."
