Adam Copeland gives his thought process when working on promos
Adam Copeland, aka Cope, is a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most legendary wrestlers of his generation. Throughout his career, he would have to go toe-to-toe on the microphone with John Cena, Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Mick Foley, Randy Orton, and more.
Cope spoke to Deej of DownUnder The Ring ahead of the AEW Grand Slam event in Brisbane, Australia. During the discussion, Cope was asked about his promo philosophy. Cope explained that he would try to find at least one piece of dialogue that he truly believed in as a man, not a character, and hope that authenticity would bleed through into his craft.
"The one thing when, even when I talk to younger talent, 'How do you approach a promo?' I find one thing that Adam, the person, actually believes. Then, hopefully, the fiction should follow that truth, and that's generally what I try to do: find one thing that I can bite into, not as a performer, but as a human being. Go, "Right, okay, I actually believe that'. So if I can focus on that, that's gonna come out with some real intent, and hopefully, everything else kind of falls in line."
Elsewhere in the interview, Cope spoke about his role as a locker room leader in AEW. Read more here.
