The Monday episode of WWE Raw saw the company very much in a holding pattern ahead of their Backlash pay-per-view, leading many to believe if the Tuesday Smackdown Live would end up in the same boat.
WWE Smackdown Live General Manager Paige will start the show backstage, before the show goes to Miz in the ring for a promo. He'll be interrupted by Jeff Hardy, who will have his United States title match with Randy Orton confirmed for Backlash. Orton and Shelton Benjamin will also interrupt, leading to a tag team match pitting Orton & Hardy against Benjamin and Miz.
Big Cass will cut a promo, and will be joined by “Dan ‘Lil Bryan’’ until the real Daniel Bryan confronts Cass -- or at least that was the plan until Bryan was withheld from the show for fear of a chest infection. Renee Young will interview AJ Styles, who Nakamura is "demanding an apology" from. He'll be interrupted by longtime foe Samoa Joe.
We'll also see backstage interviews and segments with the IIconics, The Bar, Rusev Day, Becky Lynch, and Absolution will come face-to-face on screen with Paige for the first time since they've all been on Smackdown Live.
Confirmed matches for Smackdown Live:
Miz & Shelton Benjamin vs. Jeff Hardy & Randy Orton
Xavier Woods vs. Sheamus
Charlotte Flair, Asuka & Becky Lynch vs. IIconics & Carmella
