Janai Kai Talks MLW Match With HANAKO, Says She Wants To Keep Testing Herself Against International Talent

Janai Kai wants to test herself against the best.

Since winning the title back in October 2023, Janai Kai has defended the MLW Women's World Championship against talent from other promotions like Maki Itoh, Hyper Misao, Unagi Sayaka, and Gigi Rey. At the Summer Of The Beasts event on August 29, Kai will put her championship up against HANAKO, a rising star from STARDOM.

While speaking to Fightful for a new interview, Kai talked about wanting to test herself against performers from overseas and performers that have different styles.

"So that was another conversation that I had with Court. He did let me know there will be more opponents for me coming from overseas. For example, HANAKO, who I'm facing next from Stardom, I will be defending my championship against her. So I'm very, very much looking forward to that. But yeah, I express that I want more opponents that are from overseas or different styles so I can really test myself. Because that's what I'm really looking for in general. I wanna wrestle people who are about the same level I am or even better, who's gonna really push me to my limits."

Kai then went on to talk about getting to defend the title at a Three Legacies Wrestling show in May 2024.

"I think it's both. For the last one where I did defend it outside of MLW, it was the promoter asking Court if it would be cool and they were totally okay with it, which was [Hasten Forever’s promotion?] and I defended it at."

Elsewhere in the interview, Kai talked about joining CONTRA Unit in MLW. Learn more about those comments here.
