Leon Cage reflects on going viral.
Earlier this year, footage from an independent wrestling show in the UK went viral, with Leon Cage debuting a move where he hit a stomp on Tommy Brill's back as he hung on the top rope, catching him in a powerbomb as he launched off the rope. The move would quickly go viral, with the likes of The Young Bucks and Will Ospreay acknowledging it.
While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan in a recent interview, Leon reflected on the move and it going viral, leading to him making a Twitter account.
"So with the move... Crazy. Crazy. I just literally went to training one day early, and every time I go early, sometimes I get some stuff in, have a little mess around, another few things, what I can do.On the way up, I thought, right, I've got an idea for this move that I can just put them on the rope, give them a stomp to the back. Then as they come off, I'll just powerbomb them. It was as simple as that. Well, we tried it. and It worked straight away. It just happened. It literally happened perfect, first time. I thought, wow, okay. I wasn't expecting that. I just kept it in the back pocket. Like, we filmed it when it was in training and I got the footage still. I'm just laughing because it actually does work."
Leon continued, going on to explain how the move was filmed and quickly went viral.
We were at a show and I said, right, I wasn't meant to be. So I was meant to be on a different show that unfortunately got cancelled. So instead I just shoot up to this other show and last minute they're like, hey, jump on. So I'm like, right, okay, I got this new move I want to try. I'll just put you on the rope, give you the stomp to the back and then powerbomb you. Obviously we do it. I thought nothing of it. We just came back and I was like, that went really smoothly. I hit the move really well. Then the boy that I did the move on, Tommy Brill, he put it up on like TikTok. Within like an hour, it had like a ridiculous amount of views. He was like, text me. He was like, you have to put this up. You have to put this up. You have to pull this up. So I just stick it on Instagram. I'm like, at first I didn't want to put it up. Just the quality of the footage is so bad. I was like, I can't put this up. I can't put this up. But then I put it up and instantly it starts blowing up. My phone's going crazy. Then Mark Andrews texts me. He's like, can you just send that to me? Because I'm just gonna put it up. So then he put it on twitter yeah and from there, it blew up big time and changed everything. It was crazy. So I just had to make a Twitter account. Because I was like, I don't have Twitter, but I'm all over Twitter."
