Ohio Valley Wrestling is nearing what would be their biggest deal since their WWE departure in 2008.
Fightful Select has learned that the promotion is nearing the announcement of a program deal with a major streaming service for an upcoming series that chronicles the life behind the scenes in the wrestling company.
The deal is particularly interesting, because it was confirmed via Fightful sources that the deal would be through one of the big three streaming services -- Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. Netflix is currently available in more homes than most cable networks. When Fightful reached out to Netflix sources, they didn't deny having wrestling programming planned, though sources from Amazon and Hulu indicated they didn't have anything of the sort in the pipeline. It was later confirmed to Fightful that the deal was with Netflix by numerous sources.
We're told that the program will be following certain Ohio Valley Wrestling talent throughout the Summer, both familiar and unfamiliar to mainstream wrestling fans. Currently, OVW has IMPACT talent Mahabali Shera and former TNA Tag Team Champion Jessie Godderz on their roster. The company has also looked outside of their current roster to cast the show. Godderz appeared on the Big Brother reality series in the past, and we've learned that this show will also provide full access to both the wrestling and personal lives of the talent involved. Those contacted for the show have prioritized it over other bookings for the summer.
