Trevor Lee wanted to wrestle and show the world what he could do.
As Cameron Grimes, Trevor Lee had a successful run in NXT. He was a featured member of the roster, he had a prominent storyline with Ted DiBiase and LA Knight, and he won the NXT North American Championship.
Grimes moved to the main roster in the 2023 WWE Draft, and he debuted on SmackDown in May. However, he was not featured nearly as much during his time on the brand, and he mostly competed in dark matches and at live events. In his final WWE match, Grimes lost to Bron Breakker in just over a minute on the April 12 episode of WWE SmackDown. WWE released him on April 23.
Speaking with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Trevor Lee was asked to comment on going from being prominently featured in NXT to rarely featured on the main roster.
“It definitely is hard, right, because every person I talked to, the top wrestlers and even people in the back liked me and told me that I was good and told me that I had that talent to be able to showcase it. So then it was like, okay, well, if I’m being told that, then let me show that, right. So it was frustrating. You hear all the time, ‘Oh, you’re getting paid. Why don’t you just shut up?’ I thought that could be the case when I was poor, I thought that could be the case. But at the end of the day, I’m just, if you want to use the word mark, at the end of the day, I’m the biggest mark. I got into this business because I loved it and I wanted to do it. I didn’t want to just get paid to do it. I want to do it. So yeah, it did frustrate me," Lee said.
Lee has since returned to action on the independent scene. He has wrestled for Maple Leaf Pro, RevPro, and Deadlock Pro-Wrestling, among other companies.
