The G1 Climax 28 is upon us.
The G1 Climax tournament is a yearly tourney that is presented by New Japan Pro Wrestling which features some of the best and up-and-coming talent in the company competing for an opportunity to compete for the coveted IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom. Over recent years the competitor who has won the tournament has to defend their championship certificate (briefcase) twice in order to secure their championship match.
Last year's winner of the tournament was former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito who would notoriously toss his briefcase at his L.I.J. stable-mate Hiromu Takahashi. The 28th edition of the forthcoming tournament will commence on July 14th and conclude one month later on August 12th. The field of competitors for this years tournament has been revealed and at the top of the list is the newly-crowned IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.
