Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle will clash again at WWE Extreme Rules, and their battle will be held in a fan-favorite stipulation match.
Rollins previously defeated Riddle at WWE Clash at the Castle. They were set to face off at WWE SummerSlam, but a brutal stomp by Rollins injured Riddle and delayed the match. Since their previous bout, Riddle was determined to earn a rematch, but Rollins turned him down.
On the September 19 episode of WWE Raw, "The Original Bro" took matters into his own hands. He cost Rollins his title match against WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley. Later in the show, Rollins returned the favor by interfering in Riddle's match against The Judgment Day. His involvement led to Riddle and Rey Mysterio losing the bout.
After the match, Riddle and Rollins brawled backstage. Rollins agreed to face Riddle in a rematch, and the former WWE United States Champion named Extreme Rules as the place. He also made it clear that he wanted to face Rollins in a Fight Pit match.

WWE subsequently confirmed the match for the show.
This will be the third Fight Pit match in WWE History. Riddle competed in the one against Timothy Thatcher during his time in NXT. Tommaso Ciampa also battled Thatcher inside the Fight Pit.
