The main event of next week's SmackDown has been set.
On Friday, August 27, Roman Reigns and The Usos closed SmackDown with a celebration of their victories at SummerSlam. In Reigns' case, he defeated John Cena to retain his Universal Championship. After that bout, Reigns was confronted by a returning Brock Lesnar, but The Beast was nowhere to be seen tonight.
Instead, Reigns was confronted by Finn Balor, who challenged him to a Universal Title match on Friday, September 3. Balor was supposed to face Reigns at SummerSlam, but his contract was stolen by Baron Corbin and then John Cena before he could sign it.
No answer to the challenge was given during SmackDown, with Balor attacking The Bloodline and eventually getting a helping hand from The Street Profits.
WWE has no confirmed that Balor will face Reigns next week with the Universal Title on the line.
