Steveson was weighing his options between wrestling in WWE and potentially competing in the 2024 Olympics.

Speaking to the Star Tribune, Steveson commented on his amateur wrestling future.

Amateur wrestling is "my passion," and "my fire still burns for it … I still have the year of [college] eligibility, and always will be ready to compete for USA," he said.

Speaking about his WWE debut, he said, ''Very excited. First time people are seeing me. Thankful for the opportunity."

Minnesota Golden Gophers coach Brandon Eggum said, "This does not close the door on Gable's college eligibility or his ability to return to the Gophers. We are excited to watch him do what he does best and put on a show this weekend in his WWE debut."

WWE has permitted Steveson to compete in forthcoming freestyle tournaments. He would need WWE to sign off on him competing at the 2024 Olympics. Steveson won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Olympics.
