Women's wrestling has come a long way since the early 2000s, where Women's matches were more of a special attraction built around sexuality.
Gail Kim is a name that has always prided herself on what she was able to do athletically in a ring even when the industry was so headstrong about women being mostly sexualized.
Recently on Twitter, Gail Kim opened up about how Bra and Panties Matches and other attraction matches of that same elk were very traumatizing for her.
Never looked at it that way. I just have to say out loud that this along with some other gimmick matches similar in nature were some of the most traumatic moments of my life that I have to live with, feeling like I never had a choice. https://t.co/ZYpIsbw95S

Abuse of power is correct. Then I was told even though I won (which means i get to stay decent), I had to strip to please the audience. Now I have to live with these memories and pictures. I have to live with shame. Not them. https://t.co/g3zqJXiKh7

Lance Storm would chime in, reminding Gail of another one of these infamous matches. Gail Kim was not amused at this memory.
Don’t bring up memories. I’m gonna punch someone. Lol. https://t.co/x48kIer39L

The triggering point for all of this was a remark made by Alexa Bliss where she stated she could never do those kinds of matches but respects the women who were able to perform under the circumstances. You can read Alexa's full quote at this link.
