Grayson Waller reflects on his main roster call-up.
From the beginning of the transition to the NXT 2.0 brand in 2021, Grayson Waller was pegged as one of the standout performers of the brand. Waller would go on to compete In Steel Cage Matches, jump off the top of WarGames, get into a war of words with Shawn Michaels, and more before being called up to the WWE main roster.
Waller was one of the last picks in the draft and, since joining the main roster, has wrestled Hall of Famers like Edge, quickly sparred with The Rock on social media, and gone toe-to-toe on the microphone with John Cena.
Appearing on WWE After The Bell, Waller reflected on being called up and the differences between the main roster and NXT. Waller says that the main difference is on the main roster they don't baby you, comparing it to a young individual moving out of their childhood home and going off to college.
“I think the main thing is you’re not babied anymore. In NXT, they take care of you. Obviously, you’re inexperienced, and you’re new, for some people, [they don’t have] a wrestling background. This is their first match, first time doing a promo, all that kind of stuff. So for me, you go up [to the main roster], and it’s like, go. They’re not taking care of you. They’re looking after you. I guess it’s like leaving home and going to college. You’re on your own, which I love. That’s what I want. I know some people would struggle with it. You’re not getting babied; that doesn’t happen. You get called up, it’s sink or swim and you can make that decision pretty quickly,” he said.
Elsewhere in this interview, Waller reflected on wanting to work with Trish Stratus one day. Read more here.
Another standout name from NXT is the current NXT Champion, Carmelo Hayes. In the past, Waller has said that he and Carmelo both had desires to work WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. Read more here.
