Great Muta is headed to the WWE Hall of Fame.
ESPN announced that Muta (Keiji Muto) is the next inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023. PWInsider first reported the news on March 10, following Fightful Select revealing he'd been pitched for the HOF.
Though Muta never wrestled for WWE, he did take part in the NJPW & WWF Champions Series in 1985 in Japan and often competed for the NWA and WCW. Muta was a former WCW Tag Team Champion and had a legendary rivalry with Sting over the NWA World Television Championship.
Muta also shared the ring with Ric Flair often, challenging for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on multiple occasions.
Muta's last singles match came against Shinsuke Nakamura, who is signed to WWE, on January 1. His last match as Great Muta took place on January 22 when he teamed with Sting & Darby Allin against AKIRA, Hakushi & Naomichi Marufuji.
Muta is the second inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023, joining Rey Mysterio.
The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will air on Peacock on March 31 following WWE SmackDown.
