Hikaru Shida has new gold around her waist.
On the May 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, the promotion held a ceremony to honor Shida's over-year-long reign as the Women's Champion. She won the belt on May 23, 2020, at Double or Nothing from Nyla Rose. Tony Schiavone presented her with a new gold-plated, diamond-encrusted title. The face of the revamped championship also appears to be larger than the original.
The ceremony was interrupted by Dr. Britt Baker. She will be facing Shida this Sunday at Double or Nothing, looking to capture the title for the first time. She said that once she wins the belt, she will be the face of a whole new era. Much like the last era was defined by 3:16, the next will be known for D.M.D.
Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Double or Nothing this Sunday, May 30, beginning at 4 p.m. PST.
