Hiroshi Tanahashi Says He Will Transition Into Full-Time Office Role With NJPW After His Retirement Match

Hiroshi Tanahashi discusses his plans for his retirement.

In December 2023, Tanahashi was appointed the new president and representative director of NJPW. He has balanced his duties as an executive with his in-ring career ever since. Earlier in October, Tanahashi announced that he would be retiring from the ring following his final match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026.

Hiroshi Tanahashi spoke at a press conference and addressed his plans for his retirement from in-ring competition and beyond. In one highlight, he confirmed that he would transition into a full-time office role following his last match. (Translated by NJPW)

"This time I have left as a wrestler and executive will give me a lot of valuable experience so I can transition into full-time office life with confidence. The people we have now are definitely more than capable to bring NJPW into its best era ever, and I have no concerns whatsoever," Tanahashi said.

Tanahashi has been wrestling since 1999, and he is an eight-time world champion in NJPW, among many other accolades.

During the press conference, EVIL confronted Tanahashi, and they expressed their interest in facing each other at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4, 2025.
