Carmelo Hayes has earned a shot at the NXT Championship.
On the October 17 episode of WWE NXT, Carmelo Hayes was set to face Baron Corbin and Dijak. The winner of the bout would earn the right to challenge NXT Ilja Dragunov for the gold at NXT Halloween Havoc. Ahead of the bout, Dragunov revealed that Cody Rhodes' final act as the guest genera manager of WWE NXT was to add Trick Williams to the match.
Hayes teased turning on Williams during a brawl between the contenderss, but they stood tall together. Later in the show, Williams was mysteriously attacked backstage, and he was removed from the match because he was taken to the hospital.

In the main event, Hayes, Corbin, and Dijak battled it out in a thrilling three-way bout. All three men nearly scored the win at different points. However, in the end, Corbin dropped Dijak with the End of Days. Hayes then hit him with the Nothing but Net and pinned Dijak to score the win.

As a result, Hayes will challenge Dragunov for the NXT Championship at NXT Halloween havoc Night Two on October 31. Dragunov beat Hayes to win the title at NXT No Mercy. Hayes previously defeated Dragunov to retain the championship at NXT Great American Bash.
