Jim Ross comments on Kenny Omega returning to professional wrestling, specifically AEW.
Kenny Omega is back in the ring after over a year of absence due to complications with diverticulitis. Omega returned with a bang, having a classic match with Gabe Kidd at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty. He then made his return to AEW Dynamite on January 8 and is now slated to have his first AEW match and more than a year when he faces Brian Cage at AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage
Jim Ross recently commented on Omega's return, saying on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast that he believes Omega can perfectly fill the void in AEW created by the full-time retirement of Bryan Danielson. JR also noted that he believes Omega is the kind of performer that elevates everyone around him because no one is going to want to work with him and have a bad match.
"I wouldn't doubt it and I don't know why not," said Ross, when asked if he believes that Omega is now going to be the center of AEW programming. He's the best in-ring talent now that [Bryan Danielson] is on the sideline, taking a sabbatical, and maybe a long-term sabbatical, hell, I don't know. I think he's the next in line, I would think, and getting a healthy Kenny Omega back on your roster and back on your television show is a good thing. I think he elevates everybody else's work, because nobody wants to get in the ring with Kenny and look bad, and he's going to have a good match no matter what. So, I'm glad he's back. I like Kenny. He sent me a nice text on my birthday, and he's just a good human being in my estimation. So him coming back is good timing for Tony Khan."
